Group Class Pilates

Reformer PilatesPilates if practiced properly should be in small class sizes to ensure that you learn the proper technique and the instructor is able to closely monitor the technique of all the individuals. Classes are conducted such that they are multi-level (clients of different abilities can take the same class as the instructor modifies exercises based on ability). Clients can start in Beginner classes and can progress to highly challenging Intermediate and Advanced classes.

In order to facilitate the safe and smooth flowing nature of our group classes, if you have not done Pilates on a reformer machine before (or not for a while) it is mandatory to do a group Fundamental course (4 sessions) or several Private sessions to learn the basic principles, exercises and equipment setup.

Group Fundamental Course

Group Fundamental CourseThis is a 4 session fundamental course to learn the basic movement principles in Pilates - these are for ALL clients who have not done Pilates on a reformer before, regardless of fitness and background.

Pilates on the reformer and studio machines is quite different to matwork classes that most have done. These sessions will focus on correct use of the equipment, breathing, posture and familiarity with the beginner exercises in the reformer repertoire. Once completed, the individual can enter an Open class of appropriate level as indicated by the instructor.

Please contact Focus Pilates to see when the next available Fundamental course is starting, or to arrange a private Fundamental.

Open Group Sessions (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced)

Open group sessionsThese sessions are ranked by terms of difficulty and are run on a first booked first served basis week to week. This allows you more flexibility to make an extra session, or experience different instructors and class dynamics with more flexibility to your schedule. While most of the exercises are done on the Allegro reformer, instructors also make use of a full range of props to give variety to the class including foam rollers, magic circles, demi arcs and small balls.

These sessions may be booked online if you have a current package of sessions with Focus Pilates.

Private SessionsPrivate Sessions

Provides a more personalized approach to Pilates, and is recommended for those with injuries, specific needs or completely new to exercise and/or Pilates. This format is the optimal for learning and training your body and understanding of Pilates. Instructors can use the full range of Pilates equipment in these sessions including reformer, trapeze table, ladder barrel, spine corrector, split pedal chair and mat work exercises as well (if you want some homework!). These sessions can also be used to prepare you for group classes.

Private Group Sessions

Get a group of 3-10 friends together and book your instructor and time slot of preference (subject to availability) on a weekly or twice weekly basis. You always know who is in the group and the commitment helps you maintain consistency and results.
