I had a fantastic experience taking Pilates classes at Focus Pilates. The instructors are knowledgeable, encouraging, and have a great sense of humour. When I started taking classes there a year ago, I suffered from chronic back and leg pain and was unable to do much physical activity at all. Although my spine problems haven't disappeared, my symptoms are greatly reduced, my mobility and flexibility have improved, and I'm again able to enjoy hiking and swimming . I was first introduced to Pilates 6 years ago after a slipped disc. Being a very active person, who was regularly jogging and working out at the gym, I felt so frustrated about being immobilized by the disc problem. Then I discovered Pilates, which was the solution to my misery: not only could I continue with exercising, but Pilates strengthened me physically and improved the slipped disc related health problems.

I enjoyed it so much that I continued. I have greater strength and flexibility than ever before as well as a much better posture, strong stomach and back muscles, which support my spine.

Being an advanced practitioner of Pilates in the meanwhile, I greatly appreciate the excellent instructors at Focus Pilates. As Pilates is still a growing field, it is not easy to find competent instructors, especially for advanced levels. I have slipped discs in my lower back and my neck. I have found that Pilates has helped me build strength in my core muscles and allows me to keep my body in balance and maintain flexibibility with the least negative impact. I have tried Yoga and had mixed results. I also tried floor yoga and Pilates in a group and that was not successful as I couldn't work at my pace and incurred injuries as a result. One on one Pilates allows me to work in partnership with my instructor and the results have been great.

Initially I was sceptical as to how pilates could help me. I have had arthritis in my sacro-iliac joint (pelvis) for the past five years and was receiving regular physio sessions but I was not seeing much improvement. The arthritis was flaring every couple of months and I was losing my confidence. I thought that doing any form of exercise would not help as I needed to be so careful not to aggravate the arthritis. Focus Pilates was recommended by various friends and I started one-to-one sessions with Daniel and Valarie. I was apprehensive at first but within a month I felt stronger and confident that they understood my needs and would go at a pace I was comfortable with. The staff at Focus Pilates have been professional and patient. As a result I feel stronger and much more confident physically and emotionally. My arthritis hardly flares anymore and when it does my recovery time is dramatically faster. Pilates lifts my mood, has improved my posture and is a wonderful way to the start the day.

I have suffered back pain for years. Mostly caused by a bulged disc and stiffness of the lumbar muscles and hip flexors. I started Pilates during my first rehabilitation program together with manipulation and electro-therapy. After a couple of months I started noticing an improvement in my movements, the way I walk, breathe and even the way I sit on a chair. I've learned to ‘listen' to my body to help it to get back in its balanced condition.

Classes are kept fairly small for the instructors to be able to focus on and correct all students for each exercise.

Instructors are also very clear and always repeat their instructions for each exercise and in particular highlight what we should avoid and what we should focus on which is great.
